Video Research Develops "Digital Autorecorder," an Automatic Recording System for Radio Broadcasts
May 17th, 2001
Video Research Ltd. announced today that it has developed a Digital Autorecorder (working name), an automatic recording system for radio broadcasts.
The system comprises Digital Autorecorder hardware and "GNSP" (graphical non-linear sound player) software. It is designed to digitally record a radio station's own broadcasts over long periods (approx. 20 months). The system is used by simply connecting the Digital Autorecorder hardware and the data user's computer to the Internet and has the potential for a variety of applications, including:
- Production of broadcast monitoring materials for advertisers (by inputting the radio station's broadcast diary)
- Production of broadcast monitoring tapes for advertisers
- Confirmation of listener enquiries
- Production of program libraries (the system is capable of instant selection and reply of past programs if program data is input into the system).
Test operations using the system began in April 2001, and the hardware and software are planned for sale from June 2001.
Video Research is also planning future system applications for radio advertising statistics and commercial monitoring businesses.
Functionality and features of the Digital Autorecorder main body
- 1. Automatic recording
- Automatically records and creates a file from a 24-hour input signal, from 5:00 AM to 5:00 AM the next day.
- 2. 20-month radio server
- The data contained in the recorded file is automatically transferred and stored on the radio server hard disk. Up to around 20 months of recorded files can be stored on the radio server.
- 3. Network applications
- The 20 months of data stored as files on the radio server can be shared
over an Ethernet network and free access made available directly to client
PCs (Windows).
* Ethernet: Network technology for workstations/personal computers developed by Xerox, Intel, and DEC. Runs over a LAN.
GNSP (graphical non-linear sound player) features
- Audio data distribution can be monitored through a graphic waveform display
- Play interval can be freely controlled using a mouse over the waveform display
- Titles can be attached to the waveform data
