Launch "Broadband Market Report" Service
February 22, 2002
The Video Research GroupVideo Research Ltd., Video Research Comhouse, Ltd., and Video Research Net-com Ltd.announced today that they will launch the Broadband Market Report, a new service to provide data on broadband usage and trends in Japan by combining each company's research systems and data, in February 2002.
The take-up of broadband services has risen dramatically in Japan, with the number of DSL lines rising from 10,000 at the end of 2000 to 1.5 million at the end of 2001. New business models aimed at this dynamic market are emerging rapidly. But in the face of a rapid market expansion and changes, marketers and marketing professionals have found themselves without a way to obtain accurate, up-to-date data on broadband users. A means was needed to help them understand user attitudes, profiles, and trends, and to acquire other such information that is essential in planning and implementing effective marketing strategies.
The Video Research Group developed the Broadband Market Report service specifically to meet these needs. The service is intended to provide data that will enable marketers and marketing professionals to learn detailed user profiles and predict future market trends based on fixed point observation. It will consist of multiple survey reports designed to reflect accurately the rapidly changing market and at the same time deliver high cost performance.
The Broadband Market Report consists of multiple reports. The "Broadband: Usage Report," its first series of reports, will be published in February 2002, to be followed by the "Broadband: User Profile Report" in March and the "Broadband: Web Usage Report" in April.
The Video Research Group plans to expand its marketing solution offerings in the broadband era later this year with further reports including the Broadband Media Contact Report, a proprietary survey on the lifestyle and media contact of broadband users, and Score, a streaming-content audience measurement service. The measurement of steaming-content audiences has hitherto been regarded as an overwhelming task.
Broadband: Usage Report
The Broadband: Usage Report consists of a monthly report of estimated numbers of broadband users by type of connection, which is to be compiled in partnership with Cyber Area Research, Inc. (see description at the end of this document), and a quarterly report of broadband usage by gender, age and type of connection with data provided by Video Research Net-com.
