TV Celebrity Image Survey results of August 2004
Sanma Akashiya, Yuko Takeuchi rank first among male, female celebrities

We have been conducting our proprietary survey called the "TV Celebrity Image Survey" twice a year. At this time, we would like to briefly introduce you to the results of the 64th survey (the survey has been conducted in February and August since 1973).

From the survey results:

Men

Sanma Akashiya held the top position for the fourth consecutive year, followed by Keisuke Kuwata by a narrow margin (no. 6 in the previous survey) and Hidehiko Ishizuka (no. 5 in the previous survey). Senichi Hoshino, who became a survey target celebrity for the first time, was ranked no. 16. Looking at other celebrities, Hideki Matsui, Ichiro Suzuki and Shigeo Nagashima ranked among the Top 20 celebrities, indicating high popularity among baseball-related persons.

Women

Yuko Takeuchi, ranked no. 9 in the previous survey, took the top position, followed by Masami Hisamoto (no. 5 in the previous survey) and Tomoko Yamaguchi (no. 2 in the previous survey) in a tie for second place. In addition, Dreams Come True (no. 10 ⇒ no. 4) and Othello (no. 14 ⇒ no. 10) increased their rankings respectively.

This survey systematically collects data on 1,000 celebrities who are performing on TV and is widely used as basic data for casting celebrities in TV programs and commercials.

Method: Direct visit & self-completion
Survey area: 30 km radius from Tokyo station
Respondents: 10-59 years old, male and female
Number of samples: Two-series survey (600 samples x 2 = 1,200 samples)
Response rate: 80.3% (963 samples)
Sampling method: Random two-stage sampling
Survey period: 2 Aug 2004 (Mon) - 8 Aug 2004 (Sun)
