More than 70% of individuals surveyed read a morning edition everyday, and more than 95% read it at least once a week.
Nationwide more than 95% read a morning edition newspaper of some kind at least one day a week making readership of newspapers incredibly high. It can be said that newspapers are a daily media for Japanese people.

More than 40% read a morning edition starting from the front page. The tendency to read from the front page increases with age.
With regards to how people read their (morning) papers, more than 40% start with the front page whereas less than 30% start with the back page. More men than women read the front page first while the older the individual becomes the tendency to read starting with the front page increases.
During the 7 o'clock hour is the peak time for reading the morning edition newspaper. Reading also increases at noon time and between 7:00pm - 8:00pm.
7:00am is the peak time for reading the morning paper during on weekdays. Reading also increases slightly around noon time and between 7:00pm and 8:00pm. There was a significant difference in the number of men who read the paper in the morning as oppose to the number of women.

In regards to the type of articles read, Aichi Prefecture tops the list for professional baseball articles while Niigata Prefecture tops the list for J-League.

Aichi Prefecture is at the top of the list for reading articles related to professional baseball and Ishikawa Prefecture, Hideki Matsui's home, is number one for reading articles related to the Major League. Shingo Takatsu's hometown, Hiroshima Prefecture, came in at number four. - Soccer
Niigata Prefecture is number one for reading J-League related articles while Shizuoka tops the list for reading Japan National Team game articles. Many of the same prefectures ranked high for both types of articles.
