Ownership and usage of IT related products increased

The following data shows a comparison with the 2003 survey for hobbies and leisure activity, usage of durable goods and service facility use.

There was considerable growth in personal computer, digital cameral, audio and other hardware usage as well as for the services (internet shopping, digital cameral print services, ADSL and fiber optic communication) that accompany these products.

  • Hobbies & Leisure activity
    As the 2006 Soccer World Cup draws closer, there was a significant increase in the viewing of Japan National Team soccer games. There was also a tendency to enjoy sports and movies indoors and outdoors.

  • Durable goods usage
    Usage of digital cameras, notebook computers and other IT products saw an increase.


  • Service/Facility usage
    Internet shopping grew remarkably. There was also a rise in the percentage of IT infrastructure in use such as ADSL and fiber optics.

Kyushu and Tohoku prefectures aim for healthier meals and food products while Tokyo and Kansai ranked high for gourmet dining.

Comparison of dining and food habits sorted by prefecture.

Kyushu prefectures like Okinawa and Miyazaki and Tohoku areas such as Fukushima and Miyagi ranked high in the healthy lifestyle oriented topics (marked by •), Prefectures where there is a high concentration of elderly ranked high in the results.

Taking supplements and other special health foods was popular in Okinawa and Tokyo.

Tokyo along with Kyoto, Osaka and other Kansai areas topped the list in the gourmet related topics.
