J-League Soccer is strongly community-based

While nationwide the Kashima Antlers are the most popular J-League soccer team with nearly 10% support, measured on a local level in support for the respective home-team, Albirex Niigata enjoys by far the highest level of support. This can be explained by the concept of community-based provincial teams, which enjoy high levels of favorability and support in their respective regions.

While nationwide the Yomiuri Giants are the most popular Pro-Baseball team with over 30% support, measured on a local level in support for the respective home-team, the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks enjoys by far the highest level of support with 78%. This can be explained by the concept of community-based provincial teams, which enjoy high levels of favorability and support in their respective regions. Favorability of local teams and the regional league is highly visible, independent of being new or old.
